I captured this whilst on an aerial assignment in the Pilbra. We flew over it the morning before and flagged the location so that we could return the following day and capture it in the afternoon light. This way I could be sure the colours would have the most punch.

You can't quite see it but there's a decrepid old fence line leading from the top down. It really adds to the impact of this image but unfortunately gets lost in the web size reduction.

I'm happy with the way it turned out, especially as there is a bit of a story behind it. The story involves a light aircraft and the rather dramatic loss of an entire window assembly at 4000 ft. This resulted in us changing our flight plan for an immediate landing, which took us out of our planed flight path and over this stretch of coast that we would otherwise have missed.

No wonder it's so clear, the dirty window glass was missing

Looks like an abstract painting at first glance rather than mother nature. A large print of this would look fantastic, so much to see.

Good grief, that is utterly amazing. I thought it was an oil painting before I read the text. The colours are unbelievable, and they look deliberately composed. Even after I read your text I had to look at it again two or three times to convince myself of what I was seeing. It's a compellingly beautiful shot.

Thanks everyone. Mother nature is the artist.... I just did my best to record it on a little 36x24 sensor. The colours and landscape in our country are stagerring. One could spend their entire lives traveling through the outback and not even come close to capturing what it has to offer.

Actually the more I look at it the more it reminds me of my childhood. My grandfather was an artist and I was always tinkering around in his studio peeking over at the colour palets he'd have lying around the studio. The pigment would seemingly be placed around the colour plate at random. I now realise there was a very structured order to the way he positioned each colour. Kind of reminds me him .
