Maroubra - Mahon PoolTwo very different takes on Mahon Pool, keen to hear thoughts on which one works better and why.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Maroubra - Mahon PoolI much prefer #1 - The colours pop and its got a clarity about it.
Whilst #2 is blown in the whites and the dark area in the sky shows no detail. Bob

Re: Maroubra - Mahon PoolI agree with Bob = #1 is a clear winner.
The colouring and detail is much superior. TFF (Trevor)

Re: Maroubra - Mahon Poollove the first. Great visual concepts, looks as if you have the earth in the pool, while maintaining a strong and bold sky captured with color. Great work.

Re: Maroubra - Mahon Pool#1 is by far the better of the two shots for the same reasoning that Bob has already offered.

Re: Maroubra - Mahon PoolI really like both Gerry. Number 1 punches the buttons for me more though as I like the blue tint to it.

Re: Maroubra - Mahon PoolI also like the first best.
Re: Maroubra - Mahon Poolnow that I see those blown whites on the second one have been pointed out I can see why the first is better!
This pool was flooded in that horrible argon (orange) lighting, however I found one neat little trick to help mitigate that - using a GND filter, turn it upside down, darkens the very bright, artificially lit pool and then allows some detail to be obtained from teh sky. Obviously this only works pre-dawn. The first image had this. Something to keep in mind for next time thanks for taking the time to point out which worked better. gerry's photography journey

Re: Maroubra - Mahon Pool#1....love the colours, and the composition is stronger. The fence leads you into the photo, whereas #2 has the fence leading off the edge of the photo

Re: Maroubra - Mahon Pool #1 is a clear winner.
The only suggestion I have would be to slightly reduce the shutter speed to get more movement (rather than blurring) of the waves.
Nice trick Gerry! Do you have anyone you know in the city council. We might be able to get that light turned off prior to the next shoot....
Re: Maroubra - Mahon Pool
