Worldwide Photo Walk Sydney 2010 - Ibis @ Botanic Gardens...

I joined one of the two Sydney based walks for Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photo Walk on the weekend and whilst in the Royal Botanic Gardens I was lucky enough to have this Ibis land in one of the pieces of art/sculpture right next to me and start to drink from the bowl at the top. This allowed me to get some close up shots (with the lens I happened to have on the camera at the time) from only a metre or two away before flying off.

I don't usually take photos of birds but I am very keen to hear what you think (especially if you are a seasoned bird photographer).

Thanks...

That's one of the better shots of an Ibis that I've seen. They are notoriously difficult to photograph.

I think it is a beautiful portrait of a very ugly bird with
lovely depth of field, sharpness, and colour contrast.
Next, try a more colourful bird...like a lorikeet

I know nothing about bird photography but,

Nice rough textures in the foreground go well against the soft background.

It must be unusual to use a macro lens to photograph a bird though.

Well perhaps - but it was just the lens which happened to be on the camera when the bird came down and landed next to me :) - plus my Tamron 90mm macro is actually my favourite portrait lens so here I have a portrait of a bird :)
