Long trek to MalabarThanks to Gerry we did a longish trek out to Malabar rock shelves. We avoided getting sunk in Sewerage, getting shot or falling off a cliff. I still almost got my camera completely wet...
Due to our enthusiasm getting absorbed in the local scenery during the trek, (and I was a little late) we got there slightly late... Thanks for the great company boys. For your C&C etc. Last edited by surenj on Sun Aug 22, 2010 1:58 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Long trek to MalabarThe subject like sound like a good title for a movie
Good series Surenj though not sure if you have a db (or is it sewerage) in the sky in #2. Shame we missed the best part of the light but the company was good and what else would you rather be doing at 5.30am in the morning than a brisk walk. Here is the link to that headlamp http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280482926232&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Re: Long trek to Malabar
It would have been a great horror movie if we had been attacked by zombies down there. We didn't have mobile reception either and couldn't have run easily. What a scene it would have been, bashing down zombies with Manfrotto and Benro...
Probably! I need to clean my filter.... probably has a coat of salt on it.
Ah, I don't mind. No challenge; no fun. Besides, what's photography without fun.... Next time though, Gerry won't get to pick the spot. Thanks Ray for the torch link. Here is a peek at the photographers Ephemeris. http://stephentrainor.com/tools I have already emailed the author to consider including tides, swell and weather data in the same screen....
Re: Long trek to MalabarThat's a very useful application Suren..Thanks
Sure takes the guesswork out of where the sun will rise on set on locations that you are not familiar with
Re: Long trek to MalabarSuren, thanks for making the effort to turn up and be a good sport about it all.
thats the politically correct way of saying crawling thru a barely discernable overgrown track. I am liking the first two images most, the first image is quite nice and the shutter speed is spot on, I would like to see it in a pano style but it would lose the key elements. The leading line of the rock is nice and would be helped with some more detail in the rocks, however I know thats probably impossible without some HDR work. #2 & #3 I think could be improved with a slightly faster shutter? also I reckon that cliff face needs some warmth, in my eyes it had more of sunrise glow to it, could be wrong though...
well, I could have walked faster and at least we stayed warm...
$3.25 bargain, I am getting one, even with the outrageous postage of 12 bucks.
yeah fair call, I will admittingly agree that I am barred from location choice now.
that looks awesome, I am about to check out whether it is on Android and I will also email him about teh tidal info - put some pressure on him - thats the kinda app I would happily pay for.
I am gonna have a word to helstra about that, lets see them explain why I could not make a call in Malabar. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Long trek to MalabarThanks for your input everyone. In the heat of the moment I totally forgot to do misty ocean shots which I was quite keen on...
Agreed. Also check this out!! http://www.skippysky.com.au/ a website to predict CLOUD cover!!
I also saw a similar headlamp for $12 with free postage...
Don't get too cosy, your turn will come in two weeks or so. I have tried a little single image HDR and realised that there is some detail to be had... Might post up a jazzed version soon.
