Flowers and Bees - Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Macro...I have finally gotten around to borrowing and playing with my neighbours new Nikon AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED lens.
This is a very sweet piece of glass and is the Nikon official sort of equivalent of the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens that I own (except this Nikon lens is twice the weight and size and two to three times the price! – it also has Vibration Reduction (VR) and Silent Wave Motor – SWM which enables fast and quiet autofocusing, and instant switching between autofocus and manual operation (AF-S) and is a joy to use. It isn’t that I don’t like my Tamron lens (it is absolutely fantastic – especially for the price) it is just that this lens is well… even nicer I’ve had the lens constantly on the camera for a bit over a week now and I took some shots during two lunchtimes in the city (Hyde Park/Botanic Gardens) and went for a bit of a walk with my daughters taking photos one day on the weekend. "Poppy Love" Nikon D90 + Nikon 105mm macro, 1/1600 sec at f/4, ISO 200 "Pollen" Nikon D90 + Nikon 105mm macro, 1/320 sec at f/11, ISO 200 "Docking Port Left" Nikon D90 + Nikon 105mm macro, 1/1600 sec at f/4, ISO 200 "Yellow" Nikon D90 + Nikon 105mm macro, 1/800 sec at f/5, ISO 200 In the last I was specifically looking for a simple background of silvery grey or green that I could simply desaturate and essentially monochrome the background whilst leaving the flowers (in this case yellow). Please tell me what you think D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Flowers and Bees - Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Macro...I like those pink flowers, but I cant say the same about the selective colour in the last.
The 105VR is a very nice lens, but the size and weight makes it a bit cumbersome to carry, esp when you have the 90mm Tamron for so much less. I spent a lot of time considering these two lenses but somehow have ended up with a 60mm Nikkor and a 180mm Shitma...... Cameron

It is at that - noticably bigger and heavier than my new 70-300 - however since it isn't my lens and I simply get to play I think I'll go with the flow for now D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Flowers and Bees - Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Macro...I love "Pollen". Great timing! Your DOF in the other shots are great, too.
