Shot taken with my new 70-300 vr ed. Those who wish to have a closer look to check out the sharpness my click on the picture for a larger version.
You may notice some hot spots on his head because he was in dappled light and I was too laze to walk back into the house and get the flash for some fill.
There are white balance issues between the two shots as well.

Hi Craig
Thats what you get when you cross a Kookaburra with an Owl
Great shot. I love those birds. We had family of them that visited us for a while and I have not seen them for a few years. The four of them used to perch on our back fence.
Flash was effective here. I have been birding the last few weeks while studying. Its amazing what birdlife swoops through those trees.
Nice work.

I love the expression in the first, he almost has a human exxpression there. These are beautiful creatures.

Lovely, great image of something hard to see
If I saw that it would be on my fire before I realised it was a bird.

Craig, both nice images - the reason they appeal to me is the context of the shot, the BG for both of them really illustrates the nature of these owls and their ability to blend into teh enironment, I don't think these would have had the same impact if, for example, they were hard up against a green foliage background. As cameron mentioned, the expression is quite nice in both images.
