Green balls @ Bare Island Sunset

Now that I have your attention with that thread title.. :cough:

I have reviewed some images from this evening and overall was disappointed with the outcome, most of my shots, I feel, lacked strong composition, these such images I worked hard on processing, even hit my maxium 5 minutes on a single image  and these are the ones I deleted - once again it just re-inforces to me that the PP is elementary once a good frame and composition is made - that is where the hard work lies!

Anyway, a few that I have pursued with, CC and suggestions, good bad, ugly or indifferent welcome.

this shot, is basically OOC, no PP required to show the true colour of teh sunset on that day!
Image

Green ball - basically its a muddle of a composition with the viewer being torn where to look - too many competing elements methinks.

Probably my favourite from the evening, more green rocks.

I had high hopes for this composition and thought I was on a winner, however the colour version just looked...sh$t.

Yep it was gorgeous with all that haze! Loved every moment of it! You have caught the colors here. I am not sure about the bottom 30% though....not as strong. Perhaps more cropping...Square?

#2 I agree. May I suggest something radical? Crop 30% from the bottom. Make the little peninsula around the rule of thirds and the little figures will give scale..

#3 is definitely my fav. Great lines! I might even go back for this compo. Primo. yes yes the green rock is nice in this one.

#4 I can't make up my mind. Perhaps a little too busy. Not sure. I would like to see others' comments.

I disagree. Once a good frame is made, PP becomes imperative. I reckon you have to work even harder to accentuate it's strengths.... Of course some frames are best left alone but then Ansel Adams would probably disagree.

:agree: PP is useless for bad frames of course...

Dude, just looked at this on a different screen. How about using a Vignette on #2 to keep the attention from wandering? 8)

I found the colours on the day to be a bit odd and mushy/muddy which is why I went down the warmer road..in retrospect a little too far.
Loose the green rock in #2 ...looks like a dirty great start button...way too strong.
If you use the scroll bar when replying to this post and hide the green blob you end up with a much improved composition IMHO. Think Suren is on the same track.
#3 is definitely the money shot.
Not sure what to make of #4.... It is very busy

good suggestions Suren and Ray - thats what I need to hear!

I think both ideas work well and improve the imae - even if it does remove my beloved green rock - and yes you know it, it was a beautiful electro-luminscent green!

ahh, its not that I discount the PP or its importance, merely the fact that a beautifully composed shot, for me, requires only one or two adjustments, where as others I try and push the PP to make up for the poor compo.

heres a prime example of not getting the right composition imo, the sky and sun in this image have soooo much to give and just about hold this image on its own, however this sky used in a better composition, maybe with all water and a boat in the foreground and it would have been much much better... :cough:

Yep, Ray was right. That green rock was sticking out way too much. Croppage has improved things.

Delete and move on I say...

They are all good, but for me the best are the first with that glorious red
that permiates the whole image and the third because that patch of green
leads you to discover the bridge, which is not that obvious at a first glance.

Zafra52, you make a good point about the bridge and the patch of green that leads you up to it.... at this point I will say I meant to do that :cough: :cough:

I will undoubtly look at them again in a few months time! but that is a good policy to go with :)
