Hey hey!

First time I've ever done some early morning seascapes, was a blast full of fun and exercise! ( I need the exercise)

So with the loving critique of you all I present you with my happy snaps, to get to the location me and my mate Scott walked for a half hour, followed by an hour and a bit of boulder climbing (due to gear, we learnt to "travel light")

Getting here was great fun, getting hit by small waves while trying to climb over moss covered boulders is truely a dream come true for those who are at their first attempt to "getting out there."

So here's the set. I hope I didn't do too bad of a job considering I didn't have any filters on me besides a C-POL. I think I'm due for a few ND grads.. but I'll let the experts in this area critique constructively. I hope you enjoy reading the images as much as I did getting to capture them.






That's my mate scott on the rock. He's now known as "Scotty On The Rock."

I like the second one. It actually reminds me of a mountain peak. I would like to see a bit more dynamic range in the first one. The dark areas are a bit dark and the lighter areas almost blown. I really like the sun rays and silhouette in the third.

I think you can improve on composition. I find that landscapes are great because you can stop; think; and setup your tripod and really hone in your composition. Make sure you don't take a shot unless you are happy with the composition first...

#1 is blown out too much.. Definitely a candidate for HDR.

#3 with the rays, I would prefer that to be emphasised. At the moment it's blocked by the boulder. The addition of the lonely figure is a great idea though!

C pol is not that helpful shooting into the sun.

It's true that these help to get them right in a single frame but, you can always bracket and HDR. How many brackets can your camera do? I reckon with 5 or 7 brackets you could capture almost all the dynamic range in a picture.

I'm a big believer in getting up early to shoot. One of these days I'm going to try it.
