end of a sunset..... I missed the best of this one as I was busy. It was still not too late to catch the very last red clouds.

Warner's Bay jetty...

For your C&C...

Very nice. I've seen these sort of images before but this one is very well done.

I also quite like the ide of cropping the sky down 50% to 60% and making it into a panorama.

I would go even further, and crop out some of the water along the bottom. Make this a very long, narrow pano.

Possibly use the point where the lh edge of the image intersects the jetty as the bottom point for the crop.

Wonderful colours!

In the spirit ot c&c

For me personally there seems to be a bit too much space on the right. The jetty draws the eye to 1/3 and they eye has to then move over to the sunset. They seem to be competing.

Take my comments with a pinch of salt though as i'm very new to photography and could never pull off a shot like this =)

Thanks Murray and Gary,
I will have a go at cropping. Although I will have no pixels left! This is already a bit of a crop from the original.

Interesting suggestion. My plan was for the eye to be lead into the picture (subject=sunset) by the jetty. BTW Dave, these pictures are pretty easy to make as long as you get there on time on make sure the composition is right. I just used a ND soft grad (4 stopper) and bracketed -2, 0, +2 and combined the best exposures in PS. If you are confident with your filters you can make this in camera as long as your grad is nicely level and sensor has enough overexposure latitude. I personally slightly overexpose (a few blown highlights) and pull back in post. Use the underexposed shot for color as this saturates it quite nicely.

I agree on croppage, however I think the image can stand on its own without croppage.

I think the stark white line of the RHS of the jetty is crucial, cropping this out I think would partially remove that beautiful leading line.

If I were to crop, I would crop the sky and go for 1/3rd sky, this would mean the viewer gets lead along the jetty straight to the red of the sunset.

Anyway, I still like it as it is, nice shot Suren and good work on making the effort to get out there.

Thanks Gerry, I agree with you on the croppage. When I cropped more tightly, I thought it lacked a little bit... The leading line contributes more than it shows.

Will post the tight crop when I get home.

I think the stark white line

Which white line was that? :)

Actually, what I'm suggesting isn't incompatible with your idea; the white line will still be there, but just a little shorter.

Thanks for the information. I'll give this a go sometime. Looks like fun!

:rotfl2: I was wondering if someone would pick that up
