Well its only taken me...9 months to get thru half of the images I took from Western Australia

2 images that summed up the highest point in our trip and also teh best Beach.

This one was a 4 or 5 shot pano after a 2 and half hour hike.

Gerry these are noice. What's the secret to your pano technique? focal length? Handheld? How much overlap? Any manual edits? How did you get away with the polariser on?

I quite like the vague 'S' curve composition on the first. The NZ like haze is quite nice as well. I am undecided about the rocky outcrop on the RHS. I could have been tempted to add another on the left hand side but would violate the 4 minute rule. [although pano would take more than 4 minutes? ]

#2 I keep wanting to take a frame to the left and combine and to remove a little bit of 'dead' trees from the RHS.

Gerry, its images like this that make me keep viewing this section of the forum. You really have become one of the best Landscape/Pano contributers here.

I love the layered effect of the first image. There needs to be a bit more cloud, but then again you cant help that. The peaks just lead you into the images.....

The beach is not as strong an image, a fine image, but just not quite up to the standard of the first. I am not sure about the white sand bisecting the image, i would have tried to get it further off centre.

not really much a secret really, these were both with the 17-55mm in the middle of the range which gives nice flat images to stitch together, at 17mm stitching is still very usable but need to be a bit more careful.

All handheld, there is no way I would carry a tripod (of any kind) that far Overlaps are usually at least 1/3 to 1/2 or less when there is movement involved. Usually always leave teh polariser on, just means you have to select your composition carefully, make sure the strongest effect of the polariser is at one end of teh pano. The advantages of the CPL (saturation, no reflection, nice sky) far out weighs any negatives especially when photographying in teh middle of the day.

No manual edits on these, sometimes on tricky ones like seacapes or shots with movement you need to work hard to get them to stitch.

lol, the best panos only take a short time to edit, but can take several minutes to stitch and produce tiff/psd file. I do hear what your saying about the rocky outcrop, I should have been standing over there on that outcrop!

ahh yes, now I look at it the image is definitely off centre, needs more one the left and less on teh right....will revisit that since I think i have a few extra images on each side..
