Does anyone remember typewriters? How about carbon paper - I bet that's now the world's most useless commodity.

You can still get carbon paper??? I want some.
We still have a typewriter or two kicking around. Not as venerable as this one though

As for the photo, I find the background a distraction. It is not appropriate for the object. Also the star picket is badly placed. It would be nice if there was a story half typed, and for that matter, a ribbon.

Carbon paper...pretty sure you can find it at officeworks or penfolds

Typewriter...funnily enough I am sure we have two in the house here, I played with them when I was younger...before we got our first computer.

Fair points.

The typewriter was in an old newspaper office that dates back to 1869, "The Argus". It is now a tourist attraction in Cromwell NZ. Didn't have an opportunity to play with position or background, so I had to do the best I could.

Yes you can stil buy carbon paper. We us it to transfer images or lettering onto stone for carving.
We also have several forms at work that are many pages and self carbon via impregnation within the forms.
Nice pic

I wonder if a similar situation, being closer to the
subject and a bigger aperture would help to blur
the background. Photoshop would be a last alternative
in my book.
I like your second picture.
