Nice pic mik, wait till she learns how to poke her tongue out as that is what i get everytime i point the camera at the kids, they hate when i try something new, so give it time mate it will happen. A little bit dark on her face but yes good capture with some bubbles as well.
Cheers
John

Hi Mic,

When I view your pic on D70users its really dark. So I saved it and opened in PS to have another look. Well I got a totally different image?
Probably what your seeing.

I noticed the other day you posted a shot of a cliff and mentioned a purple background yet no one could see it (including me). There is something strange going on here.

Because you have to post a pic here via pixspot I'm going to do a test and see what happens.

ps...I still think you maybe one of those he/she persons!

Great shot.
That's ultra sharp - what aperturewas that? Doesn't look wide open.
Are her eyes really that deep a blue? They are quite striking.
Have to agree with BBJ though, maybe a tad more exposure on the face, but I like the bubbles and water reflections.
Planning to sell my primes for the 17-55 - your shots are just accelerating the process.

I'm Tripping

My PC just crashed and I've rebooted. I've come back to continue and now the pic looks totally different (great shot!).

Very strange. I'm either tripping or having a flashback!

Beautiful child.

No I'm not tripping. I thought it may have had something to do with me wearing beer goggles last night but I've just looked at it again this morning, and compared to when I save it and view it (with any application) the posted version is really dark. This is very strange. Any ideas?

This is a simulation but the difference is like this??

OK Mic - are you making changes on the fly :?:

I had a look, scrolled down to see comments and thought yes Morgan is a little dark - scrolled up and the pic was lighter

That aside, your daughter takes a wonderful pic and that lens is stunning :D BTW what is ProPhoto RGB :?: That could be a reason for some pictures appearing different - I believe that most people would use the Adobe RGB colour space and I am not familiar with ProPhoto.

Hmmmm, No I'm not adjusting anything. Just posted as is last night.

Chris, Pro Photo is what my Printer has told me to set my Calibration to, but it asks me how I want to save the image and I do in adobe 1998 space when I post for Web stuff.

Hmmm Macus you might be on to something I've been stuffing up ?

I'll return tonight, I have to go to a family do now.

Hmmm the plot thickens :? :?

Mic - grabbing your photo off the forum page to desktop then opening in PSCS it tells me that it is ProPhoto RGB :!:

Chris do you see what I mean when you open in PS? It's a totally different looking image. If so, we must get this sorted for Mic.

regards Marcus

I opened this in PSCS and yes, it is using the ProPhotoRGB colourspace.
The image looks much improved colour wise once viewed in a colourspace aware program. More accurate seeming and pleasing (to my eyes) skin tones.
I think my problem (and that of most of us) is that our browsers are colourspace unaware. I use Opera 7 which doesn't do colour management & shows all images as if in sRGB (giving things a flat & slightly green tinged look). I don't think Internet Explorer does colour management either. Not sure of OSX browsers or firefox though.
Might perhaps be prudent when saving for web to save in sRGB. I did a search & I found this issue dealt with already:
http://forum.d70users.com/viewtopic.php ... pace#41107
http://forum.d70users.com/viewtopic.php ... highlight=

In any case - the image is even better than I thought it was. :D

Opened Mic’s pic in PSCS and converted to Adobe RGB. The levels were way out so did adjustment and saved AS ADOBE RGB as I always do and here is the result:

This is what I see in PSCS:

I just saved in sRGB colourspace for the web.

Whoops! Too slow.
Sorry for the unnecessary repeat in sRGB - though there is still a noticable difference between aRGB & sRGB on web browsers (mine was not exposure corrected).
Very noticable difference from PRoPhotoRGB.
I also have an untouched AdobeRGB up to compare the difference if you want to see:

O.K. Here we go,

Chris are you out there ?

As I said earlier I have set up my setting for Pro Photo for when I print as this is what the Printers use.
Now, when I open up a NEF File it comes up in the bottom left hand corner Adobe RGB 1998
When I hit o.k. it comes up with another message box saying which working space do you want to use
RGB 1998 or Pro Photo
Now I've tried Pro Photo before but when I upload to my Web Page and copy to embed in our Forum it won't work
So this is why I choose RGB 1998 because it worked no worries.

Now that Image that you adjusted is pretty close to what I see on my Mac Screen, just a tad darker on mine. Not by much.

Any Ideas ?

Mic.

This is a difficult one Mic. As you may be aware I work on a Mac as well. After dragging your photo from here to my desktop and doing an open in PSCS it told me the working space of your image was ProPhoto RGB and would I like to convert to my working space which is Adobe RGB and I said yes. After looking at the levels in your pic I noticed that there was a lot of the right hand side missing. I dragged the highlight slider to meet the histogram and then just saved as an Adobe RGB jpg and posted up.

From what you have said above you use Adobe RGB to embed images but they are showing as ProPhoto RGB so I am mystified. :(

Mic - I pulled your latest pic off and opened in PSCS alongside the one I posted earlier.

A little test: your pic still looks a bit more dull than mine so I took some readings off a reference point - the tip of your daughters nose

Your pic: R=171 G=125 B=89

My copy: R=242 G=180 B=141

There appears to be more saturation in my copy and the only thing I adjusted was levels.

Question: does my pic look brighter on your monitor than the one you have just posted?

Yes yours is a fair bit brighter.

Sorry Chris, there must be an easier way to do this

The one I just sent through, does that look better than the original one I did ?

Or is it still too dark or lacks something ?

Mic.

Hi Mic,

I hope I did'nt cause you too much grief!!

It's just that when I saved and opened your shot of Morgan I could'nt believe the difference between the posted image and what I was looking at (in PS or ACDC or even the default XP browser..I've forgotten what it's called) . I had seen an earlier post of yours where people were saying they could'nt see the purple that you could see (or something like that) and I remembered that and thought hang on, there's something wrong here.

I thought your shot was too good to to be posted the way it looked on D70users, as opposed to what I could see, so I asked the question.

kind regards

Marcus..........................ps To me you'll always be a woman!

Marcus,

Go back a few in this Thread and have a look at the Rose.
How does that look & the new one of Morgan.

Because apparently they are pretty close to the Mark ?

Mic, sitting here with a dress on :D

Mic.....glad to hear your dressed for the occasion!

Yeah, all is good. Rose is sensational and Morgan now
looks like I saw her in PS.

Maybe repost your cliff shot the same way? I'd like to see it.

Well done. :x :x
