Looks like you were up in the balcony watching these performaces? Where was this?

Just goes to show how one can be so confused. Matt K and 105mm and I immediately thought of an anti-tank gun

it could have also been a shot of the breech of a tank's 105mm

The shot was taken at the Olympic Park during a taichi/karate/kung fu competition.
I may have desaturated the second image because of the weird mixed lighting which gave a colour balance that was impossible to get right. If I can't get the colour balance right then I'll go to black and white or try desaturating the colours.
