The simple pleasures of being a kidTrying to stop a kid from jumping on the bed is hard.
C&C appreciated. The composition was difficult as I was trying to keep the camera still but didn't know which way Alex was going to run. Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug

Nahh! Just tell 'em they have to do it. Then when they complain, relent and say they don't have to after all unless they are bad. The drape is unfortunate. As is the top of the head. Maybe try some of Peter's cloning tricks. I see you were at 19mm on a 17-35mm lens. Perhaps use the lens at its widest, then crop for composition next time. Greg
It's easy to be good... when there is nothing else to do
Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidGreg, good points. The cropping was just a bit lazy as I had space above his head.
To pull you up on something...they don't reach the ground, hence they are curtains, not drapes. Regards, Patrick

Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidOther than the cropping already noted, it is a great action capture...I hope no kids were hurt in the production of this image

Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidTechnically a beautiful image....I would have liked to see more space around the kid.....I think in this case you got too close, (or cropped too tight). Love the hair! And it is so sharp! Nice!

Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidWhile composition could be slightly stronger in the ways already covered, I think this a great capture of a moment. The most important part of making this work was timing and you nailed that! Looks like he was having fun as well
Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidThanks everyone. I will see what I can do about the cropping at the top of the image. I recall I was going for a square crop, which didn't work and then, lazily, settled on this one. There was no further room to the right hand side (camera's point of view) and going to 17mm wouldn't have given much more - the camera was in portrait mode. I was also almost as far back as I could go, from memory (this was last Friday, after all!).

Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidI am gonna buck the trend here - I actually like the image as it is (in terms of crop and composition) the slightly off centre position of the subject and chopping off of the head and positioning to the right of the frame all give that sense of a uncommanded leap off the bed, a sense of a spontaneous capture...
lol, I tried this reverse psychology but it don't work, for example "here, press all the buttons on the stereo I don't mind" or "sure how about we bash the TV with the farm blocks". I don't watch much TV or listen to much music now gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: The simple pleasures of being a kidNot compositionally perfect for the stated reasons but still a top shot!
I love it! Geoff
