With the kind use of Andre's filters, I headed out on Thursday night for some attempts at very slow shutter speed images of the ocean.

Interested in your thoughts.





Now with this one, I was hoping the full moon would stay out longer to capture its reflection on the water, but alas it was fleeting. It is apparent towards the centre of the image but not as obvious a I had hoped.

While the slow shutter speeds are nice and apparent, I am not a fan of these compositions.

Do you have any other compos to show?

Not significantly different to these.

i dont think that would even be possible with any kind of distinguishable features unless it was a composite image.

gotcha.

I like the first one best. It has an eerie appeal. Before reading
your comments I thought you took them in the afternoon or
morning of a clouded day.

Tough shot to pull off with good foreground detail.

I reckon if I was to try, I'd expose for the moon and composite the very long exposure for the foreground. Otherwise the moon will move too much. Also, you'd get some stars if present. If you use the grads the stars might be dimmed out.

Patrick, the first thing we all do when armed with a new effect is go out and try and master the technique/effect, this is usually done at teh expense of composition (I have been a culprit of this many a time!)

The first image is the only one where the composition rings my bell, the BW is an interestign idea, but I am left wanting to see the colour version.

Now that you have the effect sorted you can concentrate on getting a composition where teh effect compliments it rather that over powers it.
