Another Street image (on George St outside the QVB).

I'd be interested in what people think about this one...

I think that it is close to being a good image, but misses out because of a couple of points.

The first is balance - the series of verticals on the left hand side are nice, but on the RHS there is a large area of overexposed space.

The second is that there is no point of interest. If we had those vertical columns leading into a face or a window to create a point of interest it would be a better image. The rear view of the woman with the great arse almost makes it, but there is not enough separation from the crowd behind her.

But I like where you are going with this type of shot and hope to see more.

I never know how to critique 'street' images. The subject (usually) quite abstract so how to enhance the subject, also very abstract... etc etc.

I'd like to hear other peoples' thoughts.

So, you don't think that the lady with the sprayed on jeans is a point of focus :)

And especially of the lady with the sprayed on jeans.

Seriously, Trevor's comments are spot on but I think might be able to be somewhat addressed by cropping some of the image from the right.

Basically, I think that you may want to try to counterpoint the verticals of the columns on the left with this lady, but at the same time you should try to tone down the distractions from the visual noise beyond her, and to the right. I think that cropping may help to achieve this.

Thanks for the feedback - I've made some adjustments (including cropping the right side)...

And what do you think? BTW, It's always ok - preferable even, IMHO - to leave the original image in place. It lets everyone see the evolution of the image as changes are made.

Compositionally I'm happier with the crop - however whilst I burnt in the much brighter areas above and on both sides of our main subject (e.g. on the right) (and you now see much more detail there) I think I personally preferred it where it was just all brighter and almost haloing her...

Hey Rodney, Would you be kind enough to put up the original image as well so I can compare?

Thankx Rodney,

I think the original has more 'breathing' space...

I prefer the original but do a 4x5 ratio crop so that the roof is removed. Or possibly even a square crop.

I'd try and do a bit more curve manipulation, no pun intended, to bring in more contrast to the image. As it stands, there isn't enough of an impact to the image.

The current cropped version is too tight and there isn't a real subject to focus on (yes, denim tights taken into account Gary :P).

The cropped version is far tighter and more satisfying IMHO

Interesting... which one do you prefer Rodney?

I think the crop makes it all about the girl whereas the uncropped one is more about the scene.

I've tried another processing of this image - be interested to see what you think?

Have you tried FocalPoint? you can use it to separate the subject from the background more using focal point....
