A pear of wines

Friday was our 5th wedding anniversary so cooked a wonderful dinner. Horse devours were jamon, smoked cheddar and triple cream brie with the Perrier Jouet (needed a little while to open up, but when it did...). Main was pan fried lamb backstrap with a red-wine, raspberry & rosemary sauce together with dutch carrots and chat potatoes with burnt butter and thyme matched with a Bin 389 cabernet shiraz. Anyway, good food and too much wine.

I wanted to take good photos of the wine, but didn't quite succeed. These are simple attempts bouncing the flash off the wall.





I appreciate the 389 label isn't perfect, but at that stage couldn't be bothered racing downstairs for another.

And a pear two ways. I liked this pear simply because of the two leaves on the stem.

lol isnt that funny, am not a fan of either pear shot. love the 2nd bottle shot. great timeless quality to it. yes the label would be better without the crease but imo you nailed the light for the most part. there are some imperfections on the glass just below the label which also add to the character.

The wine shots do not rock my world, hence I will comment on the pear shots - I love the use of negative space on the first but prefer the 'look' of the PP in teh second, however I think the PP has gone a fraction too far making the pear blend into the BG too much. I reckon PP the first pear with about 75% intensity of the second one, if that makes sense...

I like teh second wine shot better than teh first, however the bottle and caraf (?) 'look' greasy which is of putting for me. Vignetting works nicely and is not overdone in this case and compliments the composition.

I am really liking #1 and #2. Great stuff in indeed! #1 especially great background to add context as well!

Not crazy about the pears though.

Congratulations on the occasion and my goodness what a sensational menu !
Just to be different I like the first wine - the thought behind the presentation and the PP effect make it something a little bit different - hope you kept the bottle for future use.
I like the pear 2nd pear and could see it with commercial value as a canvas or greeting card

I appreciate everyone's cooments and it goes to show the variance of opinion. I personally prefer te 2nd wine show to the first and my wife Prefers the first.

Suren, it is indeed Hipstimatic (or gypsy magic according to iPhone 4 )

For this reason I can't emulate thePP in the first.

Trust me, the wines were more enjoyable than the pear .
