The last set of landscapy photos from our Easter in the Shoalhaven. My daughters and I with cameras in hand went for some walks along the bushwalking trails that follow Bomaderry creek (near Nowra on the NSW South Coast). It is a very beautiful area and well worth the time to walk there (very good walking trails exist) and my girls loved the exploring - we were also lucky to have some water flowing there which enabled me to take some longish exposures for the water.

I'd be most interested in any feedback, primarily on the composition (and how I might improve) and also the processing.

The Curving Stream

NIKON D7000 + 17.0-50.0 mm f/2.8 @ 40 mm, 1.6 sec at f / 16, ISO 100 + CPL

The Rock Bridge

NIKON D7000 + 17.0-50.0 mm f/2.8 @ 32 mm, 1.0 sec at f / 16, ISO 100 + CPL

Monolith Over Flow

NIKON D7000 + 17.0-50.0 mm f/2.8 @ 17 mm, 0.6 sec at f / 11, ISO 100 + CPL

The large mossy covered rounded boulders in the creek were really very interesting

the first has the strongest composition, I reckon this scene could have been a real candidate for teh bigstopper effect! I bit of PP vignetting on the top corners would improve the way the eyes run thru the image imo.

The second image sufferes from that fat rock in the foreground, its a real block in the flow of the image, mainly since it completely separates the pool in the bottom of the image from the source of the water. Maybe crop that rock right outta there..? or leave just a bit of it on the bottom of teh frame.

The third image has potential, a different slant on the PP treatment might compliement the scene better? Also selectively warming parts of the image whilst maintaining the cool colour of the water might help.

Thanks Gerry - when I'm back in Nowra I might try some shots down there again. I'll try the vignette also.

Yeah - not sure what to do with this scene - it's very pretty in person and I'm not sure how to represent that the water flows underneath but I do hear you

- the next image was taken from on top of the rock bridge so is in effect the closer (cropped) version - I could have done with a wider lens at this point however

here is kinda what I was thinking, 2.5minute effect - however I really felt I was bashing this image over the head with the PP rather than massaging it.

#1 nice compo as stated already. I think one more idea is to drench those rocks with water. :wink:

I've heard of some people taking buckets for this purpose.... :roll:

#2 & #3 that unusual rock competes a bit as it doesn't gel as a natural thing in that area. Do you have any pics of the rock itself?

#4 the main subject (the creek) is obscured by the tree branch somewhat. Perhaps a lowish viewpoint to use the branch to frame the scene?

Sort of ... this is from about 90 degrees to the left side...
