Apoclyptic sunset

Over the weekend I finally managed to make a half arsed effort to put my new B+W big stopper into use. When combined with Cokin grads....and the right white balance you can create a VERY red sunset.

Interesting stuff Cameron. The difference with and without the Bigstoppa is not that obvious in these pictures (save the color cast).

I find that I need to reduce 1000K if I use the stoppa. Also I've noticed that there has been the odd purple cast. [Bloody Canon sensors.... Wish I could install a D7000 sensor+algorithm into my camera]

I don't mind the red cast but the colour range is reduced considerably which makes the image less impressive than the third.

I also think a judicial crop from the bottom in the first two is warranted.

I reckon this location and concept is a good idea with teh bigstopper, however on this particular day there was not much wind, with a stiff breeze you would get some really nice effects with the clouds which would compliment the SOH nicely. Its obviously a good time of year too since the sun is positioned perfectly behind the SOH.

I think at the end of the day sometimes you need to take yourself away from the complete reality of a scene and try stuff like this - some of teh great photos are not direct representations of reality but often contrived scenes manipulated in a way to suit the desired end result.

With a title of 'Apoclyptic sunset' i think it works well - I could not resist and have a crack at the image cameron - i think it could work on a number of levels...

Thanks guys, I am considering heading out there again, probably on Saturday...with tripod and big stopper and other bits and pieces (especially batteries!!).

Gerry, I like the crop + rework, but I think more crimson and less pink is needed....but it is very promising. As for sharpening....what is that? I have never actually sharpened anything other than the in camera sharpening (hence I have never "over sharpened") but yes I have noticed that the forum view seems to fuzz images a bit (must reduce the resize template a bit).
