Here are a few penguin shots from my recent visit to Antactica with Greg (Mr Darcy). You can see many more images, including even a few more penguin shots, on my blog: http://www.murrayfoote.com.

Love the light and the reflection in the first :)

It took a lot of getting. They do it often but it's hard to predict where and they're too quick for you to rely on reflexes.

Some great shots, love the light in the first (seems like you had some nice weather, can't wait to see more of your trip shots). I can attest to how difficult it can be timing the shots for the porpoising penguins - you did great.

I really like the last shot, mainly because on our trip we rarely had an opportunity to photography the penguins displaying this kind of behaviour. Also interestingly they are very 'yellow' beaked Gentoos compared to the ones we saw (and even in comparison to your shots #1 and #2).

Thanks Craig

I've got 100 shots up on the blog at the moment with Easter Island and Tahiti still to come. Since we had seven full days at Easter Island and two half days plus two days at Tahiti, there is still a fair bit to come. That will come through slowly because I'm now processing all images instead of just quick picks when I was travelling.

Then I'll get back to the images from Patagonia, Antarctica and the Falklands that I glossed over. I'm not sure whether I'll post any of those newer ones in the blog. Eventually, I'll post a larger selection on JAlbum.

The first two penguins were at Vernadsky Station in Antarctica whereas the second two were at Steeple Jason Island in the Falklands. I hadn't noticed the difference in colouration, the feet are a bit different too; maybe they're separate subspecies.

On Steeple Jason Island, I camped on a rock beside a cove where lots of penguins were coming in and out. Eventually I got some good porpoising shots. They were climbing up out of the water onto that rock from time to time and then getting washed away again by the waves.

Just spent a good half hour enjoying the blog - great stuff and I'm looking forward to the larger album when it's released for public exposure.

followed ya blog on and off while you were away, some great images and locations! these penguin shots are very tidy, each image has its merits and could stand on its own nicely. Images 2 and 3 need a slight bump in the contrast imo.

Thanks Gerry

You're probably right about images 2 and 3. It also made me remember that my monitor's not recently profiled and I lent my colorimeter to someone before I left so I'll need to get it back. I'll do that before I consider changing them.
