I was up visiting Greg (Mr Darcy), who was good enough to let me play with all the RRS gear that he owned, and we took a stroll down through his extended backyard armed with macro lenses and flashes.

1:1 is not enough magnification. I have tried to rotate this bugger but it still looks odd...any suggestions?

Cameron, you should be given honorary voting rights in the blue mountains, what with the amount of visiting you do up there.

I quite like the quality of light in #2 although not a big fan of the cobwebs.

#1 I think the green adds a bit to the image but the bug needs to be framed by the green. Will have a look when I get home.

To get more than 1:1, you could try inverting your 50mm on your macro? (or on your 70-200 perhaps)? Could that be done?

OK the insect looks to be a type of fly to me. Nicely focused and lit.
Fungi #1 I have no idea
The second fungi looks like a Trametes sp. I like the depth fading with more fungi into the background.

The insect looks like a robber fly, albeit a very small one if that is 1:1.

Hmmm well the on going joke is that i will end up living up there one day, so maybe honorary voting rights wont be necessary. As for more than 1:1 I was thinking about some extension tubes......

You have me thinking there Andrew...it may not be 1:1 I'll have to check the extended exif, for some reason I thought it was 1:1 last night though.

GASP!!! A fungi that Colin cant ID????

EXIF reports that focus distance was 0.56m which means I was not at 1:1.....

nice shots cameron, the first looks a bit OOF to me - the second one is cute
