Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

As promised here are a few shots taken while in China last year. I spent four fascinating months living in a 'small' (by Chinese standards) while we did business there, it was certainly an experience and I have to admit that while at first I was shocked and somewhat appalled I am now totally in love with the madness that is China. :)

Taken in a park in the larger city of Nanjing. It's not uncommon to see people wearing face masks when outside, and considering the amount of pollution in the air it's probably not such a stupid idea either.

Women washing their laundry in the river, I was fortunate enough to have a bathroom where I washed my laundry - on a washboard as there was no washing machines available for my use.

China is an eclectic mix of old and new and I think that this image portrays it how it is.

Bless this gents heart, he rounded the corner with his wheelbarrow on his way to gather up the rice he had laid out to dry in the morning before the dew hit and when he spotted the mad western woman racing backwards with his camera running backwards in an attempt to frame and get a shot of him he didn't so much as blink an eye.. either he is amazing patient or I have finally perfected the art of being invisible! :P

What wonderful images.

Especially the second, which beautifully conveys a sense of village life, and as you say, the contrasts that are implicit in the third are wonderful.

The first and fourth are just great images.

I love the last one.
I think it's good you weren't ready right away for the shot because he's just come into that natural light coming through just at the right time.

I like the construction techniques used in the barrow shot Sue.
Pretty cool shot for being caught out and having to backpeddle to get it.

Top stuff! It's worthwhile staying in China for a few months to explore and soak up the environment (as with any other place).

Love the set - it's great to see the mix of old and new.
