Mid Autumn Festival Moon

I had a quick go at trying to take some photos of the full moon during the Chinese Mid Autumn Festival (where families gather to celebrate the full moon).

I don't really have any gear dedicated to good moon/astro photography, but thought I'd give it a try with what I had. The gear used for these was a Nikon D90 with Sigma 50-150mm F/2.8, Velbon Luxi tripod and sometimes with a Tamron 1.4x teleconverter. Photos have been cropped and slightly sharpened in postprocessing.

Nice work....what settings did you use? I attempted to do something similar with my 70-200 VR + 1.4x but wasnt too impressed with my own results

Thanks.

Both photos were shot at 150mm focal length, F/4.0, shutter speed 1/10 s, ISO 400. They were cropped differently resulting in different size, and I think the second may have been shot through the 1.4x teleconverter while the first one was without.

Shot indoors through a window (I was too lazy to go outside) on tripod. It was a cloudy evening, so I had to take many shots to get a handful where the moon wasn't obstructed by clouds.

I like the halo effect of the first. They look pretty good for having been shot through a window!

I do like the first one best. I think you did
very well and your effort was rewarded
with a good picture.
