Sydney Telstra 500The V8 season is over for another year, and I was fortunate enough to get accredited to any of the rounds I wanted. The joys, although, it can be a pressure test to get images to editors within 30 minutes of the final lap!
I had fun at Sydney, but find the track very restrictive photography wise. It's an awesome event, but I dont know how good it is for the paying customer. Free-loading photographer wise it's great Because of the restrictions and the fences, you need to try and blur them out any way possible: Mark Winterbottom leads Jamie Whincup through the XXXX Chicane. F/22, ISO 200, 1/10 sec, 86mm Again, by moving the focal point, I was able to produce a blurred image, while still have the vehicle recognisable... The falcon of Shane Van Gisbergen. SP Tools Falcon of Van Gisbergen. F/22, ISO 200, 1/10 sec, 86mm Of course, it can't all be artsy fartsy, sometimes you need to get that safe shot, that lasts for a second. You either are ready or you miss it.... Jamie Whincup kisses the trophy after winning his 3rd V8 supercar series. f/3.5, ISO 320, 1/250 sec, 200mm I always like the press call after the races, it gives you a chance to get portraits of the drivers, not that you ever really end up using the images. Craig Lowndes answers questions, Garth Tander in the background... F/3.2, ISO 2000, 1/200, 300mm. Anyways, thats just four of my many thousands of images from a great weekend. Once again, thanks to Jeff for his company, and for putting me up. Feel free to comment, and I apologise for the horrid, but legally required, water mark. 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: Sydney Telstra 500I prefer the first over the second.
Not knowing much about the V8 races, I still have a 'soft-spot' for Jamie Whincup - he had parked his road registered, but race spec Commodore across the road from our house last year and the boys went crazy with the 'racing car, daddy!!!' (yes, three exclamation marks). Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Sydney Telstra 500I like the first image, it works really well, but the 2nd image is too blurred and although you can recognise the side panel paintwork it doesnt have the same impact that the first image has.
Thanks for sharing Cameron

Re: Sydney Telstra 500I like the last of these. It's a great industrial portrait, and shows all of the real action from the V8s.
No, seriously. g.

Re: Sydney Telstra 500Gee whiz Alan you think that with all your experience you get a sharp image

Re: Sydney Telstra 500Thanks for the comments folks
The purpose was to try and show some different style of images from the V*'s, rather than the usual side on panning shot at 1/200 sec. 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: Sydney Telstra 500I reckon the 3rd image is the better one of the lot but could use a little bump in the shadow department. The one of Craig is technically very good, but his facial expression does not work for me (a little out of your control), however if he is a loser on the day it maybe more appropriate expression
I don't mind the first two and the 'artsy fartsy' blur, something different gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
