Caught this Cicada emerging from its shell this morning. Shot with my 60mm micro and the R1C1 macro flash.

You are really coming out of your shell as a photographer.

I was busy working in the garden when I came across the critter. I grabed the camera and flashes and took just three/four shots and proceeded to carry on with my garden duties. In hindsight I should have taken my time and taken a few more shots over the period of time through the full emergence. I returned 1/2 hour later to find the Cicada had flown leaving just the discarded shell behind.

what Wink said. That is great timing and it is a perfect image for a nature journal or something.

Nice shot Geoff
Gotta love the colour they go when they are just starting to emerge - it is due to the haemolymph (insect blood) which is coursing through the wings in order to inflate them
