Glouster tops waterfalls

Actually go to go out for a few days, which was really great.
While the orchid and fungi show was OK we also took a look at some falls. Unfortunately we could not get to the base of the largest set due to topography and no ropes.
Small set of falls in full sun with an nd filter (borrowed from mate as I did not even contemplate this sort of pic before leaving).
Slightly larger set further up the river, same situation.
What do we think of the crop and lighting of these please people?

The second one has a great composition and could be cropped a bit tighter on teh falls if so desired. on both images the colours feel very muted, i would hit them with a bit of shadow recovery followed by a touch of brillance/vibrancy or whatever they call it nowadays then bump the contrast.
I note that the forum resize has made them look a bit fuzzy, viewed in separate window that aspect is all good.
I love the area up there in the Barrington tops and Gloucester, amazing place..

They do look better Gerry, is this the sort of thing you had in mind?

Hi Colin - I'm not really feeling much for the first but that second image has definite potential - the composition and silky water is very nice. The rework is better but I think you could get even more out of it - although may now need to do so selectively so you don't turn the watery bits too green/nuclear.

beat me to it!
here is what I had in mind, a couple of simple steps i used
1) d-lighting/levels curves to lift the shadows
2) add warmth (the water makes it look very blueish)
3) saturation/vibrance
4) contrast
5) 'u point' on the right side on the rocks to lift more light out
6) crop - this is the most important one I reckon, the crop means the water falling into teh pond is at one intersection of the thirds and the top of the falls is almost at the other, the swirling water on the bottom right leads you inot the image beautifully.

same diff on the first image, which upon further inspection has good potential too, mainly due to that set of rocks steps that leads from teh RHS
as usual let me know if you want them removed.

hmm, i actually don't mind teh second image as posted by you (Colin) in the second set, the darker scene could actually work too, however I still reckon a crop could help...

Aaaah yes Gerry, that is much more like what it looked like on the day.
I also now see possably what Rodney was thinking of as well.
There is deffinately more going on in the larger falls.

They all work on one level or another Gerry. Depends upon what you see in, or expect from, the image before, during, and after the fact.
No way would I want you take down your reworks, it helps to show everyone what you were on about.

Colin - What Cameron said. One of the better milky waterfall shots I've seen.
Where are these falls? Are they anywhere near Gloucester?

I quite like the original 2nd but, I must admit
the the reworked one is growing on me and
I think now it is a good improvement on an
already good photograph.

Thanks fellas,
Peter,
They are about an hour up into the Glouster tops. The turn off is about 10Km before Glouster. If you drive to the upper river (basicly end of the road) then walk 1km or so along the track down river they are off to the right of the path and pretty easy to get to. There are other sets further down but I was not keen to lug gear through the water and rapids to get to them.
I had already fallen over into the water the previous day, to the amusement of my mates. I was not even a metre from completing the crossing when I lost my footing and timbled sideways. The temp made me get up pretty quickly so no water entered my bag or gear and I was cool for the rest of the afternoon.

Thanks Colin. It's a pretty area and I've been that way a few times. I'll mark it down for a future visit.

Nice Gerry, you seem to have had less sun on your visit.

Hi Colin, 2nd image of the second attempt is good but I reckon the blacks look clipped. Gerry's version has reasonable shadow detail but greens are too much. So somewhere in-between may be the go from my POV.

So something more like this then.
I must say I like this better than the first effort.

Clin, from my POV this is much better and balanced. I prefer the cooler tones as they match with the blue/green in the image.
