Inside St Mary's Cathedral on Australia Day... ArT!?...

Photography is normally not permitted inside St Mary's Cathedral - however on Australia Day I was with the thousands of others packed inside the Cathedral who were happily snapping away and taking videos with all manner of phones and cameras so I figured I'd try some handheld 3 shot HDR brackets and see what I could get.

I did this with AutoISO on so I could get a half decent shutter speed but it did mean I usually ended up with the 0EV frame at greater than ISO 2000 and the +2 frame at ISO 6400! so I wasn't expecting any miracles here.

That said I was very pleasantly surprised with the way this monochrome conversion of the handheld HDR turned out...

and no... THIS! is ART :)

Lovely tones and nice depth to the image.

I like it, but maybe a tad oversharpened?

This has turned out very nicely. I have often considered sneaking a few shots...but have generally thought I better not. I am glad you did though. Yes very ART!

aRt is in the eye of teh beholder.

Irrespective of the processing, its a nice simple, symmetrical compo which i like. Maybe try working just one image? it seems to lost its depth and feels flat.

As much as I hate obvious HDR I have to admit it can be used for some quite convincing effect. This one almost looks like a lithograph or engraving. Well done.

Cheers
Steffen.

It is - but this was done quickly handheld - I did a little bit of rotation but can't fix it completely :)

and since I'm here - here is another image from the same day (non HDR this time - the HDR was ugly :)).
