Hi all, just wanted to share some of my favourite shots from the Formula 1 practice sessions I went to see. This is my first time going to the Formula 1, despite having been in Melbourne for a few years and being a fan of F1.

The weather was pretty random, with heavy rain and wind. Shots were mostly taken from the Schumacher grand stand. The first batch of photos I've processed are the less popular racing teams (I sorted the photos and tackled these first, as there are less photos of these than the Ferraris and Mercedes).

Thanks for posting. I was hoping some shots would appear of the F1.

The lack of decent vantage points for photos has been what's stopped me going in the past.

I feel these are lacking a sense of movement. Everything just looks stationary. Did you try to take some shots while panning at a slower shutter speed?

Agreed. I had the same problem with the v8's at himebush. Couldn't get that sense of speed and movement.

Yeah I did try panning with some, but never really went with a slow enough shutter speed to show motion blur, while being able to keep the cars sharp.

I'll have another look at whether I managed to get some shots with motion.

There's a tiny bit of movement in the wheels.
1/800th and 1/1600th are still quite fast shutter speeds. Do you have any down at 1/200th-1/500th?

The second photo of the first blog post looks to have the most movement to the wheels and background.It was shot at 1/320th.

Which is what makes me appreciate the skill of the guys that do it so well. All your shots are crystal clear though that's for sure.

Yeah, totally agree. I guess this time, I was so worried about getting sharp photos that I prioritised it over capturing motion. Definitely something to keep in mind for myself to improve next time.

To give you an example I shot this at 1/200th...



I found that was about my limit before the strike rate started to drop off. I've got a few at 1/160th, but they're not as sharp.

neo, I did the same at the v8's.

a very interesting composition with the blurred
background and wheel indicating great speed and
movement.
