Testing the 17-35mm - IR

With sunny conditions, an itch to test some more lenses and amazingly a bit of time off work I managed to get out and shoot some IR today. Nothing too flash, just an outing to Mrs Macquaries Chair.

I started off in the CBD, this seemed more of a monochrome image...

As I moved away from the buildings and into the greenery....some false colour trickery seemed to be fitting

I can now happily add that the AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8 is a fine infrared lens (at least for my camera) I couldnt get this lens to hotspot, and it was difficult to get this lens to flare.

They look fantastic cam. Very nice wb choice. Care to share your wb and pp workflow.

#4 has nice composition Cam. Print it after you clone those buildings out! Perhaps Metallic?? I wonder how that would turn out.

Yep that last one is very nice (the last two in fact) - so is this your IR D70?

White Balance was a custom preset I took ages ago...it worked well so I havent changed it since, it can be hard at times to find a nice green patch of grass in full sun!

Workflow is as follows:
-take photo (RAW, Custom WB, standard colour mode)
-open in CNX2
-adjust exposure (Quick Fix -> Exposure Compensation)
-adjust hue (LCH -> Hue -> 180 deg -> drag all the way up) this is the equivalent of a Red/Blue channel swap
-D-Lighting (if applicable)
-adjust contrast (if applicable)

NOTE: if I decide to go to a monochrome image I will not bother to adjust hue (channel swap) and then do the conversion after I have adjusted exposure/d-lighting/contrast

Thanks Suren....metallic print would be interesting.

Thanks Rodney. Yes these are from my D80 IR (720nm), it is the only Nikon I own that is sensitive to IR enough to be useful, although I am yet to test the J1 (not holding my breath)

They are all very nice images, but I believe
the second is the best. It works better
than the others for me.
