The first event of the year on the NSW Polocrosse calender. Held over the Easter weekend.

Now there's a sport you don't see every day. Good, action packed shots. How long was your lens?

70-200. Turned out an ideal focal within easy reach of halfway of a 124 metre field when shooting from the goal line with each team running towards you after changing ends after the 2nd of 4 chukkas. Or covering the full length from half way. These were shot from behind the goal line.

The red shirt in the the 1st and 3rd shot are Australian reps, as is the woman in the 4th. The ability to pass the ball around at full gallop as if playing a game of football and the horsemanship displayed is quite amazing.

The last two are the best of a very
good set. Well done!

Looks like a rather dangerous sport especially if you were to fall off.

Love the last one. The blue shirted person is over the top of the other riders horse.

There was a woman flown down to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital from the event on Saturday after her horse stumbled and fell on her. She is in intensive care in an induced coma.

The skill of the riders is phenomenal. These guys are teens. Some of the best teens in the country, but teens nevertheless. The guy on the right is shepherding/sqeezing the defender away from the ball carrier. They are permitted contact with the horse, the rider's shoulder and hips to shepherd the opposition, plus swinging upwards with the racket to attempt to displace the ball from the racket of the opposition. Riders were being smacked all day by haymaker swings.

Polo is for the toffs before champers and cheese and polocrosse is for the tough before beer and barbecue.

That's what happened to Henry VIII in about 1536, except he was jousting, not playing polo - and his horse was armoured as well as himself.
