Pirelli Road Race Series

Last weekend I was granted permission onto the infield for the opening round of the Pirelli Road Race Series.
I could only stay until the lunch break, but there was constant on track action with all of the different classes qualifying and racing...

I'll sneak a 5th shot in. I couldn't decide on just 4...

I became obsessed with shooting really close up detail and action. Probably wouldn't have done that if I was shooting for someone else, but since it was just personal interest I could do whatever I liked.

More typical racing shots can be seen at http://www.photosbyadamlee.com/Proofing/PRRS/

Adam great shots. The close ups, especially the first, is very refreshing way to look at the action.

Adam - those first two shots are killer excellent - what focal length and SS were you hitting for these?

Thanks guys!

#1 is 1/320th f/8 @ 400mm and #2 is 1/500th f/8 @ 400mm both on a 1.6x crop body.
I use f/8 because I find the 100-400L a little soft at anything wider than that.

cracking shots Adam, that looks like a absolutely premo possie with lots of compositions and angles.

what AF mode are you using for this? single point focus? tracking? etc.

Thanks Gerry.

I made the switch to back button focus some time ago, so I use AI Servo for everything now. Just focus and release the button for static shots.

I took these at a few different spots around the track. I used a unmanned marshalling bunker to get about 2-3 metres from the passing bikes. That was a lot of fun!

Me either. The track's 20 mins from home so I saw it as a good opportunity to try something new.

Adam, these are neat especially you've nailed the technicalities which I reckon is quite tricky in these circumstances.

What focus modes did you use?
