Look at this Rock!!! RAW RULES

Here's the next pic I took in Raw. I must say that working in 16 bit is very helpful. I LOVE the detail I got out of the rock on the bottom. I also really like how the rocks descend into the water and fade into the silky lightness of the water. I also love the power line poles on the top right...and the little cloud...the more I write the more I like! I find I'm converting to BW more and more these days for some reason. I should probably clone out the branches on the right hand side though EH?
(I can't believe how much I love that rock!)

Thankyou Big Pix. Indeed Squamish is truly a majestic place, and Vancouver is great as well (I'm actually thinking about trying my hand at urban photog). I find that the challenging thing is getting the pictures in interesting ways that no one else has gotten, or relaying the small micro world that makes it so beautiful here.
Mic, indeed you have created a monster. I haven't been this excited in a long time. Shooting in JPEG creates massive noise amounts and banding in skies etc where Raw is much cleaner. I didn't notice PP being any slower as well.

I'll work my way from Pigeon Park to Stanly Park at say 2am on thursday eve. That should be interesting.
Actually there is a little old downtown in Squamish that I work in and it is about to be redeveloped. there are tons of old Squamishites that live there right now, people where you can really see their hard lives worn on their face. They look interesting, they have big dogs, walk around slowly with seemingly nothing to do etc. I want to capture them before all the condos go up and it becomes a bedroom community for Vancouver.

Dave - one of the first rules of photography is to love what you take. This pic shows the growing empathy you have obtained with nature and design. A beautiful photo, and I agree about the power lines.

It took me a while to realise what I was looking at here... Mainly coz I first looked on my really crappy Acer monitor at work...
Now that I'm on the slightly less crappy Dell monitor at home I can see the wonderful detail in the bottom half of the pic... Nice shot dooda...
I'm glad you have discovered RAW... I made the switch a few weeks ago, but unfortunately I haven't noticed such a dramatic improvement in my shots yet...

Here is the JPEG. It doesn't look so bad in color, but as soon as I convert to BW through channels I get this really grainy effect in the tonal range.
That's why I'm so stoked about RAW, no grainy blotchiness.
(EDIT)BTW, this is the same scene but not the same pic. I took this pic before, then remembered that I wanted to try Raw, ran back and took the Raw pic (thank goodness).
