A new direction

Hey everyone, I haven't been in for ages (sorry about that  ), but have started to learn to shoot things other than frogs and dragonflies
Here a couple - please be gentle :)
The first is a friends 4 week old little girl - never shot a baby before, but it was fun :)
The second was a try at a 'trash the dress' style shoot while on a workshop - the model was finished and I asked her if she was game - she immediately said yes, and then asked me what trash the dress meant :) This was definitely fun :)
Oh well, here goes ....

Hi Narelle - the baby is nice and I like the triptych (the colour palette is good and I like the mostly light background for the first but all coloured for top right)

The second for me is too devoid of all detail on the skin. The soft (100% negative clarity) look seems fine on the boby shots but on the model it just looks too airbrushed and fake. Compositionally I'm ok with the rest of the shot - I'd crop the dark area from across the bottom.

Gee Rel, When I read the thread title and saw the first image my first thought was  ,Rel's had a baby :!: But then I read on :)

A far cry from your usual signature stuff, but as usual, you haave excelled. The baby shot(s) is nicely exposed and composed - very sweet. The trash the dress shot I like with the dramatic lighting but I can't help thinking a landscape orientated image would be better suited.

thanks guys :) Definitely haven't had a baby LOL :)
This is a shot that was processed much 'softer' and is landscape - actually, I think my horizon is a little crooked and it still has the rowers in the background, :? but see what you think ....

Hi Rel.

Great to see you here again.

You should be using a cannon, not a Canon. :)

The baby with the roses/headband does nothing for me. Otherwise, the other two shots are very good.

I love the trash-the-dress shot. I like the negative space that the portrait orientation gives the image, and the darker section at the bottom adds a sense of depth. The lighting adds drama, and the composition is excellent.

I have no issues with the post that you've applied either; you seem to be wanting have a certain feel to the image, and I think you've achieved that very well.

Good to see you are still shooting Rel. Love both shots especially the bub, I prefer the first dress shot but think it would be better if the outer/bottom edge of the dress was included.

The pictures of the baby look a bit over exposed
on my screen. I like the pose. The abandoned bride
looks a bit too dark, but it is an interesting look.
