I was in Melbourne over the weekend, and have finally managed to sit down and sort/process my images. Here are some of the better images from this getaway. I settled on taking my D700 + 17-35mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8, I was able to borrow my girlfriends Tamron 90mm f/2.8 during the trip as well. These were all taken with the 17-35mm.

#2 - nice!

#4 - maybe a bit too much leaning going on and I don't much care for the modern glass building on the left - maybe a vertical compo with the horizon in the middle when taking the shot would have worked better with the UWA.

I like the first three. The fourth one looks nice
till you realise the building on the left looks more
precarious than the Leaning Tower of Pizza.

First one really pulls you into the frame - excellent

#2 and #4 are excellent! Composition is perfect and the images have been carefully processed. Love em.

Would love to see some shots of the Tamron 90mm mate

Lovely stuff. #1 and #4 for me.

If you feel inclined to, you can correct the verticals in Lightroom though you'll end up having to crop part of the image.

I didnt end up using the 90mm much, but the last image from this set is one from the 90mm

Thanks Matt, I have to admit that #2 is pretty much out of camera, but #4 is a 9-frame HDR processed with HDR Efex (NIk).

Thanks Piro....I have played with some crops for #4 and am leaning to just cropping off the leaning glass tower in the far left.

#1 is a tremendous image. I think t'would be better without the black triangle in the lower left hand corner, but I'm not sure how you could get rid of it. (I don't think even CS5 "content aware" manipulation would help in this instance.) Nevertheless, great photo all the same.

I hope you don't mind Cameron, but I have had a play around with the first photo and I think CS5 has done a half reasonable job of getting rid of the black triangle. (I'll delete it if you don't like it. )

Thanks Ozi that triangle removal looks good. I have another variation of this image that may also be of interest

For me that first image is the standout. It's got great leading lines and nice counterpoint between the harsh black of the superstructure and the softer browns of the building. To be honest my eye was so strongly drawn to the top I didn't notice "the black triangle". Not a fan of the version with more triangle though
