Let me paint the scene...

My gym had a special competition this morning, followed by a barbeque. I went for the food :)

The first thing I realised when I walked in was that I should have taken my camera with me. There was excellent morning light from high windows and the "graffiti" on the brick walls in that light was amazing.
Fortunately, I did have my iPhone.

The iPhone has terrible shutter-lag, so timing was of the essence. Weightlifting is quite dynamic.
This is Jimmy, a dark-skinned Scotsman! The weight isn't terribly heavy, but he was doing multiple reps of the snatch movement - 21, 15, 9 - to make up a set.

I have done a B&W conversion and added some texture. Unfortunately the image reproduces a bit too dark here. Clicking through to the larger image may give a better result.

In the colour photograph is Marty. This is untouched from the iPhone except for a bit of sharpening. The vignette affect is from the natural window lighting as described earlier.
I decided not to clone out the weights, water bottles and skipping ropes because gyms are always untidy!

The black and white far surpasses the colour photo but just imagine what you could have done with the 800

Sounds like they were doing a Crossfit workout.
B&W has it nailed, composition and mood wise.

:) 21-15-9 sets still kill me but that's another story for another day.

The first for teh processing, the second for teh composition, the slanting wall really detracts for me in teh first.
