Snowy panos

Been a while since i got out and took some photos but managed to go for a snowshoeing trip a week ago. Last time i didnt take my DSLR and regretted it. This time i still regretted having to carry around just the 5d II and 24-70 due to the weight, but the enjoyment of wandering around phogotgraphing such a lovely place when the pack was off was worth it. Most of the photos were nothing special but these few stitched panos i quite like- hence the need for feedback to see where i could improve. Composition, lacking point of focus, oversaturation etc- let me know. All were taken just below guthega- on way out and on way back.

thanks for any ideas on imporvements (ps dont be afraid to suggest recomposing as i will be back there again sometime)

Love the first one. Great composition and colours. The second and third not so much, mainly because the stream is broken up into bits, it takes away the leading line.

I guess it started to snow between taking the second and third shots, going by the snow covered boulders.

I prefer the first two images here with the second taking the winners medal. The lower viewpoint works better IMHO.

These look great! I would love to see some monochrome conversion...and also IR (how is the 350D going?)

Awesome images. Love the colour, wide composition and of course, the snow.

good to see you back here.

The first image feels like two separate images, one on the left of teh stream and teh one on the right of the tree, i found cropping it from the right (15%) made a marked difference to how the eye flowed thru the image.

The second image is the pick for me, however i think you really need to tweak that white balance/colour temperature, it feels way too cold ;) seriously though, below is a quick edit.

yep... #2 for me... it's not Always critical to have single point of focus... and this image shows that.
I think Gerry's colour balance adjustment is certainly an improvement.
Also... and hard to just with a small image... the sharpening might be a touch aggressive. The full size image might be fine.

#2 and #3 for me. I think making the water completely blurred would be advantageous in these. [despite the cliche]

I agree that #2 works best. I think next time it might be an idea to bracket, just get a bit of detail in the snow. You could do this either manually or with an HDR program, provided you can get a non-HDR look with such a program.

Thanks for all the positive comments, really encouraging as i feel I'm stalling a bit in my progression as a photog.(prob cos not doing it enough!)

darklightphotography- i get your point about lead in lines and am hoping the first has that "looking in" feel when I print it (when i get over my printer problems!!!! cant get rid of magenta cast on old epson r1800)

cam- thanks- havent used the IR at all in the last 12 mths- i guess baby number 3 (now 10mths) will do that to you! hopefully have abit more spare time soon.

GeoffM- yes it did snow between shots, the first were on the way out for a couple nights snowshoeing and tenting and the 3rd is on the way back a few days later.

Did tweak the WB gerry thanks for that, not sure about the crop- i think that's why #2 is a more conventional photo and hoping the extended RHS on #1 will look ok and not like a de-fished UWA shot or too disjointed. i am hoping it works when printed.

Murray- The snow is blown but not sure how much detail i couldve got- some other shots show some nice sparkles but on these occasions there was little direct sunlight for that. I've not got a lot of expereince with HDR and some of them are 5 shots stitched so prob beyong me to do hdr stitching!

Suren- even though we were pulling sleds i still didnt put the tripod in- might be worth it next time.

thanks guys- now going to sort my printer......
