Here are a few from last night (thanks Rodney for coming out, and putting up with me). I really have not been taking pictures at all recently, and have found myself really struggling to come up with anything. So please give me all the C&C you can as I need something to get me going again.

The first and last would be my picks Cam. The flare from the street light in the first gives a cool look.

In the last, a lone person walking toward you or leaning on the fence would add some more mystery to the shot.

Last one is good. "The lonely hydrant" maybe?

Hey Cam, great to see you out and about.

In the first image I reckon you have something, lets break that one down a bit... i find the light trail and the bike symbol a key anchor point, the flare/light acts as a very nice end point for the viewer as they move thru the image. The arch way on the left behind the light streak is nicely placed to compliment the scene, now, to improve, imo, crop from the bottom to reduce the impact of the boring space on the lower right but also more importantly to reduce the effect of that gutter leading the viewer straight thru the image without looking at the sweet stuff like the light streak and more importantly the bike symbol.

on another note, how bizarre is that flare, did you have a UV or other filter on at the time? looks like light was bouncing all over the joint

Hi Cam - pleasure and as I said - just gotta get out shooting more - get you over the funk

Firstly - what is most interesting to me is the differences in our shots and picks even though we spent half the time wandering and shooting in essentially the same locations. And I don't mean this in any bad or good way - just an observation about what drew our respective eyes - even down to the framing and composition of images.

#1 as others have mentioned - funky flare and even bokeh - Gerry's crop idea may have merit - I'm wondering what it might have looked like with red streaks instead (cars going the other way) and seeing them go around that bend

#2 doesn't have quite enough around the sharp writing to drag my attention enough - perhaps a serious dodge and burn?

#3 also has the funky flare on the bottom right - was this the 12-24? (with the filter?) - I don't get anything like this with mine

#4 probably my pick - what's it like in monochrome (with a little burning over the top left corner and the bright areas of the path (esp bottom)?

Cameron, Welcome back.

#1 Consider a pano crop. This one has enough elements but one needs to stand out more...
#4 consider a grungy BW conversion. I agree that one more element would make this one more interesting.

#2 and #3 I would delete.


I know what you mean by a lull etc as I am similar currently. Sometimes, you need to just get out with your camera all the time and just keep snapping. Perhaps we could persuade you to come out with us landscaping etc

Thanks guys...I will have a play with the pano crop for #1...and yes a dirty star bust filter is the correct answer.

I am looking for inspiration so I am playing with all sorts of strange things...CCTV lenses on my M43...star burst filters etc.
