Wonderfully soft light and the subjects have been well placed to make most use of it.

Geoff - #3 really sings for me - not exactly sure why - it's not the best exposure of the set but I really like it - the nice curve and the deep colour and the way it falls into shadows all over the place

Soft light ? Sheesh, I dunno about that. Looks pretty hard to me hence the drama and contrast. A brilliant set. Just brilliant.

Geoff, I have a book titled grandiflora by gary heery and saskia haveekes. This book should have never been published as the majority of the photos are only about 5% as good as yours.
Keep at it because your method is perfick as Dell Boy would say.

Thank you all for the positive comments they are greatly appreciated and encouraging. I am happy with the results but I am sure further improvements are possible. The limitation for me will be the lack of variety in available blooms unless I go to the florist. That said, the wife for once, would probably not object to me spending money on my hobby.

You are winning all around there Geoff!. Love the concept and beautifully executed. I would have to say that the monochrome is the weak link for me

I had another play today, this time using differnet coloured b/g to see what works best. I prefer the plain black, but in some circumstances another colour will allow more detail to be seen. I guess it all depends on the colours of the subject being photographed.
The majority of all these shots were taken at around 0.4 sec @f20, ISO200. I need to increase the shutter speed/ISO, as some movement can be seen at 100% due to vibrations through the tabletop
I also tried one with just foliage rather than flower blooms.

I quite like the green background - the triptych isn't to shabby either.
The last is nice too but not up to par with the pea? flowers
