I'd like to see some cropping applied to the lower section of the second image.

Forgive my ignorance but what is meant by "crop it into a pano style image" panoramic?

I would say about 30% off the bottom...just to get rid of the blank space on the bottom that is slightly blurred.

Basically, yes.

The section at the bottom of this image doesn't really add much to it (IMHO) and thus I think you could just remove it completely, converting the image into a pano (panorama style) crop - one that's long and thin(ish).

Let me turn the question back on you first: why do you wish to withhold it?

As to why it's important, let's say that you want to learn a technique, and perhaps need someone to show you. This might be photoshop, something to do with camera operation or a particular photographic technique ... it's very helpful to know who lives nearby.

What it you want to play with a particular body?

Or a new lens?

Or you need a particular lens for the weekend or an upcoming event? You could rent one from a local camera store.

Or maybe someone living nearby might have just what you need, and would be happy to let you borrow it.

But who lives nearby to you? We cannot help you very much, because we don't know where you are.

And yes, we do get together and do all manner of stuff, and this is because we do know (roughly) where most of us live. I catch up with members when I'm traveling in Queensland and Victoria. Others do likewise when they visit NSW.

And we have three different events happening in and around Sydney over the next few days. You're welcome to attend any and all of them.

And hell, we'd invite you too.

If only we knew where the hell you were located.

I'm not trying to withhold it, i didn't understand why complete strangers, who in my eyes are on a forum to look at, critique and admire photos, that a forum members location would be of any concern. I have also been told don't take candy from strangers and don't give out your location until you know the motive of the crazy people behind the camera I live in Perth. I am that much of a new comer to photography that I wouldn't even have the skills to photoshop.

Hey Bob, just put Perth in there mate, there is nothing sinister about the whole thing and I speak from experience here, it really does help. We are not just some nameless faceless goons on the internet, we are real people who meet up have fun.

I like you first image, a fraction wider would have been nice to include the whole 4wd but still nice. The second has potential too.

oh btw, if thats your car in the photo i would blur the number plate...boy you should see the info I can get with just a number plate

Perth CBD is more than acceptable. I for one used Sydney CBD until I got to know a few other users on this site. Knowing someone's location (even roughly) makes it really easy to organise meet ups, test/borrow gear etc.

Agree with the cropping on #2.

#1 seems off compositionally to me. There's all this wasted space on the LHS and the RHS of the car is chopped off where we can just see that there's some people there. I'm interested in what those people are doing more so than the empty beach on the other side.

They were all just talking, nothing was set up, just tried to capture what I could while we stopped, the reason I left so much room to the RHS was to take in the vast area we were on, these are some of the largest dunes in the Southern Hemisphere

Well, that's where the misconception starts, and, with all due respect, should perhaps end.

We are not complete strangers. In my case, I am most certainly incomplete, and most would agree that there are few who are stranger.

In all seriousness, and as I've mentioned, we are not simply an on-line group. The original intent of this forum was to organise for us to get together to meet and make photos: the very first meeting was on a Sunday morning in Sydney in August 2004, IIRC. Many from that original group are still here and post from time to time, and all of us retain very strong friendships that were initially forged on that very first outing.

And I'm truly proud to call these people my friends, and to have them visit with me in my home to share photographic stories, equipment, and perhaps a meal, and to meet with them - often on less than a day's notice - at various places around the city to make some images, enjoy a local art exhibition (one of our members has an image on display at the Art And About Exhibition in Sydney's Hyde Park) or a visit to a restaurant.

This Tuesday is our fourth annual visit to Sculpture By The Sea, followed by dinner and maragritas at a nearby Mexican eatery; this is now a regular event on our calendar.

As I said, to refer to us as strangers is ... strange.

The real crazies have mostly left. Excepting me.

But your statements exemplify why we are here: you don't know that you do NOT have the skills, and many of us will argue that you actually do. Being new to photography is not surprising, nor is it an issue - we all were at some point.

But we have some very good 'togs here, and they're ready willing and able to work with you and help you progress your knowledge and skills.

It only needs for you to ask. Don't be shy.

#1 has a composition problem as part of the the
4X4 is off the frame. If that was your intentions,
I would sugggest that that you crop even more
as ensure that the interesting bit of the vehicle
appears on one ot the two thirds to make
compositiom work better.

#2 does not need as much foreground, as explained
above and it should be cropped making the
picture have a panoramic format. You already got the action
in your piture. It would work because it would force
the eyes to the left and front of the car making it a
more interesting and dynamic composition.

P.S. These are only suggestions, you can try them
to see if they work. Sometimes, you need to see your
own photographs with someone else's eyes. At times,
I thought one of my pictures was great, but most
people did no like and vice versa.
