hi Bob,
You need to put your location in your profile (UserControlPanel>Profile>EditPofile>Location.
Also, you should really only put up a maximum of four photos at a time for critique/suggestions.
If you want to show off your trip to Thailand, that's fine, but it should be in in another section. Personal PhotographicJourneys comes to mind.

As for the photos, I am jealous of your trip..
#1 I like the tilt. It takes a while to realise that is what is happening & it is a lovely jolt when that sinks in. However it is a shame the sky is so badly blown. Did you take RAW? If so you may be able to get back some detail. HDR would have been a good option, but you would need to plan this when you took the photo.

#2 lacks sharpness. It looks like you were indoors and handheld. Perhaps boost the ISO and shutter speed at the time of exposure

#3 I like it. In this instance the blur imparts a sense of movement which adds to the picture.

#4 would have been a great sht, but again you haven't quite nailed the focus. Or perhaps it is movement blur.

Sorry we seem to have upset you.
The rules are there for a reason.
1. The location is there so we can help you. I have been loaned a camera (Nikon D300) to take to Antarctica, and have loaned a lens (18-200) for a member to take on an O/S trip (Don't remember where he went. There are also regular meets where members swap ideas and get to play with each others gear. Very handy if you are planning a purchase. Less so if you are prone to gear lust.

2. There are members here who are still on dialup modems. I know because I gave a member one of my old ones when his died. He is in the back blocks of Tasmania and broadband was simply not available. By limiting large posts to specific sections those members can avoid time consuming downloads except when they have time on their hands.. You post in this section is liable to take half an hour or so to download at 56kb/s. This is not exactly fair.

I've just looked at your pics and have to say I don't like any of them. They are all soft and mushy looking because your focus was not accurate or your camera moved when you pressed the shutter button. I don't get the first pic at all...not sure what your subject is...and that animals eye! it obviously lacks sharpness and I'm not sure why you posted it.It fails on every count. Of all the pics you posted only the last one has some merit...the composition works fairly well and the leading lines have some power. It seems that you could do with some helpful tips and some technical advice...and this is just the forum to help you out with that. But it's a 2 way street. The rules are there for all of us in order to make the forum a success. If you don't like them then don't get abusive....just go somewhere else. Conversley, if you think we have something to offer, and we do, then cut the expletives and engage us in some intelligent dialogue. That would be a win/win for all of us.

I thought the gremlin line was pretty funny actually. lol

Listen up guys, this forum is a pussy cat compared to some forums that I am a member of.

One that comes to mind is the Xtreamer forum. Put one foot out of step there and you are stood against a wall and shot. The moderators there are so bad that I have personally named them after the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo)

Matt let me be frank, I am a new comer here and was only joking (obvious to the non egocentric amongst you) if you wish to be harsh and try and "PUT ME BACK IN MY BOX" so be it, I quiet enjoy the fact that keyboard warriors get frustrated at comments on a forum. Trevor as stated you should have some decorum, you should be a roll model for aspiring photographers and not overreact in such a manner. I'm a little concerned

That is one of the most important rules here, and you now seem to be set on a course to break pretty well all of the rules that we have in place.

There are a few things that you need to understand: this forum is NOT a public place. It is a private venue, and you are a guest, visiting at my pleasure.

Those members who offer you critique will do so using their own time and expertise - and in many cases, that is far more valuable than you can imagine. Piss them off, and see how much critique you receive. (Clue: it won't be a whole lot)

You now need to start taking note of our rules here. You will not be permitted to make any further posts unless and until you do. That includes putting your location into your profile, and it most definitely includes taking your ego and placing somewhere where the sun doesn't shine.

And you need to start learning to treat others with with respect. I really don't give a damn about how you treat others outside of this forum, but please be advised that while you are here - as my guest - you will be nice to other members here. Other members who have earned the respect of this community through their actions and deeds.

And the total absence of an overblown ego.

Of course, what I've suggested here takes a little bit of courage and guts. You're free to ignore my requests and warnings - but not within this private forum, which means that should you choose to not honour us with your presence .... that would be your choice.

Do you have the courage that's required? We shall see ...

Sloppybob's attitude seems less than acceptable, and he has been asked, a number of times, and by a number of different people, to comply with our rules. Instead, he has decided to shove some invective upon the rest of us, which to me shows that he displays the maturity of a two year old.

Trevor's response is appropriate and measured, given the number of times that Sloppybob has been asked to observe our rules. Let's see how he now responds.

Really? He told a new member to get with the program or fuck off, in response to what I and at least one other saw as a joke. That was neither appropriate nor measured. A PM would have been more appropriate.

In fact most of this thread feels especially unwelcoming, regardless of the OP's transgressions. Whatever, your rules. I can see where Trevor got it from.

The issue is that I didn't see it as a joke. I know that having this person add a location to his profile had been mentioned at least a half dozen times prior to this thread, and at least three times, by myself, in three different threads.

I think it's the height of rudeness for this person to come in here and not just ignore such requests, but to then go on to mock them.

I have tried - very hard - to be nice and patient about this, but for a new member to be rude to other members here ... it's just not on. He's mocking me, being rude to others, basically just trying to be a smart arse, and that's behaviour that we've never tolerated in the past, and I'm unprepared to tolerate it today either.

That was neither appropriate nor measured. A PM would have been more appropriate.

As noted above, several very polite approaches had already been made, but ignored.

And then mocked.

For the time being, I have suspended his posting privileges. I'll be perfectly happy to restore them once I can see that he's added a location to his profile, and/or he sends a PM.

He knows what the rules are. I believe that members here can receive a valuable benefit in terms of the progress that their photography skills get through the mentorship that we are able to provide, but biting the hand that feeds you is not the way that things are done here.

Well.....it seems like Sloppybob has lost his sloppyjoe.
