Dining on Red...

Took my girls to dinner at a nice Thai place in Cammeray last week - they had these very cool chandelier style lights and with a glass ceiling (and it being near the end of twilight) it made for a interesting handheld shot with the 50/1.4 (at 1.4 of course :))

and a little glimpse along the kitchen galley with the also interesting birdcage lighting just as I was heading out the door

Rodney, that first has a sense of presence that makes me feel like I am there now. Lovely.

Both are very nicely handled Rodney. They give off a vibe that I would be happy to dine there.

Love them both. You've captured the intimacy of the restaurant and the images have a classical feel about them. You really nailed them both technically and artistically.

Not far from you either - recognise the place? - I've only been there twice now but the place was always packed and the food is pretty good.

That's the place in the Stockland shopping centre, next to Wild Sage? Have been meaning to go there: is it any good?

That's Papaya Thai! I recognised the place from the lighting fixtures. Loved the food and service there the last time I visited.

Great photos and you've certainly captured the atmosphere of the place

On the strength of these images I'll definitely need to dine there!
Nicely done.

Rodney

That last shot is sublime - great use of DOF to show off the lights while still knowing we're in a busy restaurant.

Thanks Mj - the ambience (a little dark and moody) and the food is good

Thanks Peter - although I'm guessing I probably just shot wide open so can't take all the credit

I quite like the first image, the 3 simple elements (light fixture and two women at separate tables) gel well together
