This is a bit of a quick and dirty image of a dried bouquet that we have had for years. I wanted to give it a dark yet soft type mood. C&C appreciated.

Nice, ticks the boxes for dark and somewhat for soft, i might take a literal approach to the soft and consider a extra step in the processing to get some diffusion, even selectively outside of the main focus area.

I think the vase it just a fraction too prominent since it seemed to draw my eye quite quickly, maybe just a slight crop may minimise its impact?

Other options... and i am just thinking out aloud here, maybe a desaturated colour version?

All in all I like it and any improvements would only be minor refinements.

Hi Patrick - the vase or whatever it is calls my eye too much so somehow it needs to go - I know that might mean the flowers just hang in space but I think in this case it would be preferable. I like the roses and the tones spread throughout so that part is very nice. If I was to be super critical I think given that the tips of almost all the roses are sharp, that the ones at the very top which are more oof would have been better if they were as sharp (in the same plane of focus) - I don't mind and quite like that the focs falls away as you go down the stems.

Thanks for the comments. Regarding the vase, you may be right with its dominance in the image, but I feel it needs it as an anchor. I will try toning it down to make it more subtle.

I will see how a desaturated version appears.

Okey dokey. I have acquiesced to the suggestions of Gerry & Rodney and here is the result.

Oh, Rodney, I have no way of controlling focus on this one. :D

for me, leaving some of the vase in is essential, also the crop you have done seems to affected the overall feel, i think mainly resulting from the loss of negative space. :)

It bother me that's it's centered in a landscape format with so much pace on either end, But that's just me.
I think it needs the vase but tone it down a tad, it's a little too bright.

Overall a very nice image though. Thumbs up on texture and light.

What do you mean, Chris? This is in portrait mode.

In case anyone is interested, this image was created using the Epson V700 scanner.

A final version with part of the 'vase', but cropped a little and reduced in exposure.

Oh...ok...on my iPad its showing as landscape. I think it's cos it's black on black border so it looks like its landscape when viewed in full screen.
