While promenading the length of Urangan Pier at Hervey Bay, I observed
this youngster catching a sting ray and other small fishes and putting them
in a mesh basket at the back of his rusty bike...

Do Sting Rays taste any good/edible?

Perhaps it's as a bait? Or perhaps signs of hard times.

Zafra, if you hadn't told us, it's pretty hard to make out what's in the basket.

I think you are right and that catch may be used
at a later stage as bait.
Suren, I realised it is difficult to make out the
content of the basket and that is why I had to
explain.
Thank you both for your comments.

I had stingray whilst in SIngapore....very nice to eat, firm white flesh with virtually no tricky bones! Works very well grilled with a chilli based sauce!

Interesting! Possibly I had it too without knowing.

I have been told that all rays are now protected in Qld. Not 100% sure how true this is, and a quick Google search reveals nothing.
