The lighting was 3 Metz CT 60, 2 on radio slaves and stands as the rear of the machine was in a small entrance {or exit}. 1 flash on wall behind machine, one flash on roof and spill on front of maching, 1 on camera. Flashes set to maxium, time exposure for headlights as this was the only light in caven. Machine was doing rock under pinning from memory, where long rods or type of screws are put into the roof to stop it falling in
This scan if from a reject Transparency but a good example of what can be done with portable flash...............

Great photo of what looked like a difficult lighting situation.

Did you use a star filter, or is this some (very nice ) flare from the headlights?

F11 or F16 when shooting into lights or well stopped down you get a bit of a star effect. I only had 20 minutes to do this pix which included setting up of the flash heads, as they were about to do a blast and the mine had to be cleared. We were about 2 miles underground to do this shot, other shots were done a bit deeper but not as interesting as this shot.

cheers
