Miky Way with the X E1

Here is my first attempt at shooting the milky way with the Fuji X E1 and the kit lens. I intend to get a wider lens for this type of thing but undecided on the 14 2.8 for its faster aperture or wait for the 10-24 f4 for the wider FOV. With the ISO capability of the X cameras f4 may not be such a problem. I will have another go with the kt lens at f4 and a higher ISO to see how that works out.

Shot at 18mm, f2.8, 20s, ISO2000.

Thats pretty fine Geoff - although they do say for these milky way star shots the faster the better... I'm keen to try my new 35/1.4 when I'm out in the country sometime to see how it fares. You may even need to drop the exposure time to get sharper stars - I think the "formula" says to use a shutter speed faster than 500 / 35mm equiv focal length.

Had another crack at this, shot at 18mm, f4, 17s, ISO1600. The 'smudge' on the bottom edge, I am guessing, is a cloud.

Such a tiny camera....such a big subject. How did you fit it all in? :D :D :D Seriously though, shows the quality of the Fuji lenses and sensor and the skill of the photographer. Nice work!

Nice stuff indeed Geoff. One day I would like to photograph the heavens, (and some waterfalls). There is so much to learn with this craft!

Thanks all for your comments. Winter in the southern hemisphere is the best time of year for shooting the Milky Way so expect to see a few more soon! The reason for this experimentation is due to a pending overseas trip in Dec/Jan where some of my time away will be in Finland where I will hopefully capture the Northern Lights.
