Even low tide can be pretty...

This is the view from Cleveland across Moreton Bay to North Stradbroke Island. The vantage point is a little park behind the appropriately named "Grand View Hotel", Queensland's oldest licenced premises.

The final image was a centre crop from a larger photo that had a lot of low mangroves in the foreground which did little for the scene. Deep mud prevented me from going beyond the mangroves so I had to settle with a cropped image. The levels were adjusted very slightly as well.

Any comments appreciated!

Gee Simon. What can I say. This image is beautifully composed. You have the nice white fluffy cloud playing counterpoint with that dark tree in bottom left which anchors the shot and the nice lean lines of the waterline running across the shot. Impressive. Well worth muddy feet!

Really nice effort, Simon. Perfectly exposed for the clouds and sky, and evidently perfectly cropped also.

Thanks all for the comments . I'm just really happy for people to make any sort of comment but when they like the shot it's a real buzz.

Obviously the single mangrove tree was just screaming out to be photographed but I was concerned about how best to compose it. The clouds were moving around a bit so I shot a couple of 'frames' when I thought they would be in a nice balanced position. I was at first annoyed that the crop made the water intersect the edge partway across the image - the original had it meeting the right hand corner but I suppose it lends a little interest and isn't as much of a manufactured composition the way it finished up. I think I'm learning....

Wow, I'm a sucker for a nice pano, but this is absolutely great! The lone tree works really well and the clouds are begging to be in your composition... Enjoyed this very much... You've done this really well...

Wow. Thanks Andrew. Looking back on it, I could have done a huge 270deg or so pano series but who knows how many gremlins might have leapt into the mix then. I'm really happy with the way this single shot turned out but, as they say in the classics, there's always room for improvement.

Hi Simon, Mate that has turned out well, for what you started with but even though at first you might have thought that it was no good. people ask me when i do my motorbike pics is what do i do if they are not in frame properly, which does happen from time to time i just do what you have done ok if the pic is not right i can crop it to suit another way and still make a nice pic out of it.

I love the pano look and yes i think you did a great job, very pleasing to look at.

Cheers, John - thanks for the positive comments. The more time I spend in this forum and the more images I look at, the more interesting points of view I guess I take on board subconsciously. The slim pano-style crop just seemed really right with this shot.

Lovely shot with beautiful shades of blue. Of course, the foreground silhouette of the tree is a great component. Nicely done.

Simon - I can only add to what has been said already by saying - the right place and the right time with a designers eye

Not quite at the Point, Mark, it's from the park Between the Grand View and Toondah Harbour (where the Straddie ferries dock). Nice part of the world.

Aweshot shot. Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more beach on the right side... but still and awesome shot.

I agree about the 'beach' which incidentally is actually mud. If I had altered the crop to extend beach to the right edge of the image, it also left in some ugly mangroves as well. I tried cloning them out but it just didn't have the same effect.
