Sigma 70mm DG Macro lens 1:2.8 @ f22 for 3.2 sec (flash assisted) and ISO 400.

Thank you for sharing your photo with us. I always
found an intensive red very difficult to photograph
with any of my cameras. I believe it is because it
is a primary colour used in RGB.
My photographs of red flowers always come out with
a loss of detail and my solution is always a compromise
between a vivid red and no details or a more subdue
red with details and texture.
I am not quite sure if this is a general camera problem,
of some brands only or a lack of knowledge on my part.
It is possibly all the above.
I am telling you this because I can see in your photo my
own problems. Perhaps one of our more knowable
colleagues can offer you and me some expert advice.

Red used to be problematic with many of the older cameras...the D70 comes to mind here, but seems to be not so much a problem with Nikons, at least, after the D200. I don't know what camera was used for this but the image has pretty good colour on my monitor and has not blocked up at all. I'd have to rate it as technically almost perfect. It is a very difficult subject but the detail is OK at my end. Any others seeing differently?

Beautiful and yes, my D70 could not handle reds very well at all.

Also, I gotta say...schlumbegera sounds like something you'd find in a back alley to eat.

Now, I support what Matt has said but, and it’s just a small but, I would prefer to see a much closer view so that the one bloom is accented.

For the record I am using a Canon 60D.

Picking up on Zaf's comment, I think there seems to be a colour saturation factor at work although I did not PP this. The actual colour of the flowers is more lipstick pink than red, at least when you stand back from them. Up close and with some added light the colour seems to intensify.
