Shoot the Opera House during Vivid Sydney with the full moon rising behind it - sounds easy ...

The clouds were a bonus. I actually shot quite a few bracketed frames thinking I'd need to blend the images to cope with the massively bright full moon - however... I LOVE my D600 - the dynamic range is awesome - these are all single frames with very few adjustments - win!

any suggestions gratefully accepted...

While, to be perfectly honest, I'd prefer to see the SOH without all of the temporary graffiti, I must grudgingly accept that some of the stuff for Vivid doesn't look too bad.

We were at the launch of the new Sony 4K tvs on Tuesday night (they'll be available in a month or so, Chris) and while walking back to the car, the treatments on the western side of the Bridge were quite restrained and therefore not too bad.

While what you've done is very good, Rodney, I'm afraid I fall into the "don't encourage them" camp when it comes to Vivid: I think the SOH is a wonderful structure, and this lighting does nothing to enhance its beauty.

I disagree with Uncle Scrooge. Vivid is a spectacular way to temporarily add interest, in a non-destructive way, to our beautiful opera house. Perfectly executed documentary images.

I didn't see the moon rising.

No worries, Rodney.

I suspect I'd have less of an issue if I didn't hear the alleged government squealing every ten seconds that they have no money to spend on schools, hospitals, public transport and roads etc, but then they can find the dollars to fund this sort of thing.

Must be an over 50s thing Gary. I too thought the same thing. Robyn and I went for a short drive to Woolgoolga headland this morning, one of the truly great 360 degree panoramic views in Australia. Any time of the night or day, it is sensational. There is just a sealed road in and out. You get out of the car (or sit inside if it's raining) and enjoy the view.

Now it's all barricaded up, with construction of some sort taking place, with viewing platforms, seats, walkways, concrete etcetera. The local council is always crying poor, so just leave it alone. I know, it's June and the budget has to be spent, but if there's too much in the works' budget, why not just give some back to the ratepayer?

Rant ended.

We were very disappointed when we went to Salem MA on our recent US trip. when I was there before, it was (still) a nice little village, with its own villag-onality, just a few miles north of Boston. Now Boston has growed and swallowed it up so that it's just a 'burb.
