Well, I thought they were good at the time but the judges didn't agree. Maybe next time

Would be good to get some insight into why you picked those 2 images. The 2nd is interesting but not sure what value #1 brings to the table.

Matt,

As you know, there's nothing "unsuccessful" about these images. That others might not appreciate them, or have chosen them above some other images is totally irrelevant.

I have no doubt that your second image would have made it to the final cull. It exactly fits the criteria and would have been a very close contender. Re the first image, I suspect they get a lot of ANZAC day pics or similar as it's such a popular subject. So far they have resisted the urge.

Rooz.
The criteria is 'Sydney Life' and my first image was an example of some of the different cultural activities that go on in the CBD. The Ozzi guy walking past seems to add context. The image has some interesting elements in my opinion and they become more obvious when you examine the image at a greatly magnified size. Remember, the winners get printed as large as a barn door. Having said all that I had another contender that my gut feeling said was a good choice....but ignored it after some illogical rationale. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the exhibition this year as it's always a great show.

Well, you never know. It' s the luck of the game and
judges, unlike teachers, don't exactly have a marking
criteria sheet that need to be followed rigorously.
Art evaluation is very subjective...Better luck next
time.
