Actually I remember travelling by train from Switzerland into Italy and it was an amazing sight. On the Swiss side everything was neat and clean looking but as soon as you entered Italy all you could see was decay and filth.
But I still love Italy.

You are dead right Chris. The difference between Spain/Switzerland and Italy is amazing. The former are so clean they're almost sterile, but I do love visiting Italy. I can tire of Rome at times, but never so of my wonderful Italian friends.
